Aaron Harrison and Travis Perry interview each other at the Joe Craft Center
Imagine taking two all-time Kentucky legends — one leading the Wildcats on a historic March Madness run featuring some of the biggest shots the program has ever seen, the other wrapping up the most productive high school career in KHSAA history, finishing as the state’s all-time leading scorer — and sitting them down together in a room. And not just any room, the room where Aaron Harrison worked to perfect his craft as the ultimate dagger-thrower and the one Travis Perry is using in hopes of becoming the next in-state star to wear blue and white.
The Cats of past and future met on the Joe Craft Center floor to discuss their unique journeys to Lexington, starting with their respective commitments to Kentucky as a blue-chip five-star in Harrison’s case and as an in-state superstar dreaming of staying home in Perry’s. What’s the difference between Coach Cal and Mark Pope? They talked about that too, along with their head-to-head battles in practice with La Familia and The Basketball Tournament in town.
Oh, and Harrison’s game-winners. Growing up as a diehard Kentucky fan, Perry had to ask about those and what it was like being the one to hit them during that wild March ride.
“That run was just unbelievable,” Harrison told Perry. “Just being able to be the guy they trust to hit the last shot, make or miss, and being a part of March Madness, you know? Everyone is talking about — in March, everyone talks about that in the whole country. Being the face of that for a while was pretty cool, definitely.”
“I remember it was exciting for all of the people in the state,” Perry responded. “It was just like, whenever it came down to it, ‘Get the ball to Aaron and let’s see what happens.'”

“That was a funny time, for sure. Fun and funny. I’ll definitely never forget that,” Harrison said. “I probably don’t appreciate it yet — I think about the losses we took in the Final Four more than the shots I made. But it’s cool to be a part of that, seeing the shots here and there.”

Travis Perry goes 100/100 at the line
Remember Andrew Carr telling the story of Perry hitting 59 consecutive corner 3-pointers in practice a few weeks back? It was the top takeaway coming out of the media’s first sitdown with the players during summer workouts.
“Sometimes you walk in (the gym) and he’s at 500, 600 shots up in the day, something like that. And he’s still at 85 percent. And I’m like, how is that possible?” Carr said. “I look over and it’s all threes, he’s at 85 percent. It’s pretty crazy… He made 59 in a row from the corner the other day. It’s incredible.”
Perry one-upped himself this week in practice, knocking down a perfect 100 of 100 attempts at the free-throw line on back-to-back days. He also reportedly hit 90 percent of his threes, even better than the rate Carr raved about on ridiculous volume.
Maybe Perry has some March Madness magic up his sleeve as a Wildcat like Harrison?
