It’s almost time for Steiner Speed in Eugene. Tonight, Abby Steiner begins her quest for gold at the World Championships in the 200m heats. The former Kentucky Track & Field star will run in Heat No. 5 at approximately 9:28 p.m. ET. The fastest in her heat, she’ll be in lane five. The top three from each heat plus the six fastest times qualify for the semifinal, which takes place Tuesday night at 9:05 p.m. You can watch live on Peacock. The 200m finals are Thursday night at 10:35 p.m. ET and will air live on USA Network.
Hayward Field has been kind to Steiner this summer. She set the collegiate record in the 200m there at the NCAA Championships in June and a few weeks later, won her first national title at the USATF Championships with a time of 21.77 seconds, a new personal best, the sixth fastest in American history, and the 17th fastest in world history. Steiner’s time of 21.77 is the second fastest in the world this year behind Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson’s 21.55. Jackson will run in Heat No. 1 at 9 p.m. ET.
