Abby Steiner Named National Women's Track Athlete of the Year

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Kentucky has the best female track athlete in America. Monday afternoon Abby Steiner was named National Women’s Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The list of accolades is long for the senior from Dublin, Oh. This year she won her second straight National Championship in the 200-meter sprint. The National Title-winning race was actually slightly slower than the record she set in the SEC Championship. Her 22.09 200-meter sprint is the fastest ever by an American and second-fastest in world history.

At this year’s National Championships she also silvered in the 60m with a school record 7.1. Steiner picked up a bronze medal for her contributions to the 4×400 relay team too.
What makes Steiner so good? She’s out here trying stuff out and crushing it. Racing in the 300m indoor event for the first time this spring, she ran the event in 35.8, breaking a record that had lasted 40 years. FORTY years. That’s obscene. In the process she also wiped a Sydney McLaughlin record off the books at UK.
Simply put, Abby Steiner is the best of the best. Now she has the hardware to prove it.
