Adebola Adeyeye makes Nigerian national team, set to compete in Olympics
In her lone season at Kentucky in 2022-23, Adebola Adeyeye was a solid contributor on a team that didn’t have a ton of them. Adeyeye averaged 4.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while playing an average of 17.5 minutes per contest. In the 31 games she appeared in, she started 12 of them.
The 6-foot-2 forward has continued her basketball career since her days as a ‘Cat, and on Wednesday, she was named to the Nigerian national team, so that makes two former UK women’s basketball players that will be heading to Paris to compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics.
This is only the third time that Nigeria has qualified for the Summer Olympics, and both times, the club only finished in 11th place once they got to the big stage. However, in the Women’s AfroBasket, Nigeria has won six gold medals, all since 2003. They also won bronze medals in 1997 and 2015.

In the All Africa Games, Nigeria won gold in 2003 while reaching 2nd place in 2007 and 2015. They have four bronze medals there as well.
Adeyeye will have a chance to play on a Nigeria team that could reach levels they have never seen before, but in such a tough field, winning won’t come easy.
