Adou Thiero put in some EARLY morning work today
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist invented the breakfast club back in late 2011. Led by MKG, a group of players woke up early most mornings and were in the gym by 6:00 a.m. putting in a full-blown workout before classes started. Some people attributed this leadership and work ethic as a key piece on that team’s run to the 2012 title. Future players have dabbled with the concept, but it never really stuck. Adou Thiero, however, might be taking the breakfast club to new heights, or at least, new hours.
Thiero posted a picture on his Instagram story of himself in the gym at the Craft Center at 4:35 a.m. this morning. This is pretty impressive, especially considering it was Friday night/Saturday morning and most college kids who are awake at this time are up to no good.
Not Thiero.
Adou appears to be the only person in the gym, so it doesn’t look like he has quite convinced his new freshmen teammates to join him quite so early…yet.
Thiero is one of the most unique players on the team. He entered Kentucky at 6’4″ but grew to 6’7″ in one year, and he may gain another inch or two before he maxes out. As your grandma might say, he’s growing like a weed.

In terms of position, that same grandma might call him a Swiss army knife. He filled in at point guard last season when Sahvir Wheeler was out, received time at the 4, and played every position in between. His hustle is unmatched and earned him minutes last year. It will most certainly do the same in the upcoming season as well.
Overall, Thiero reminds me of a 6’7″ Dominique Hawkins, and I’m excited to see how he grows both literally and figuratively this season.
