Alabama holding a White Out vs. Kentucky with 10,000 free t-shirts

Like it or not, Alabama has moved past Kentucky in the SEC pecking order in recent years, winning two regular-season and conference tournament titles, reaching a Final Four, and going .500 against the Cats (4-4) since Nate Oats took over in 2019. Still, the No. 4 Crimson Tide are giving the No. 17 Cats the Super Bowl treatment on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama isn’t just calling for a White Out at Coleman Coliseum, they’re making sure it happens. The first 10,000 — yes, TEN THOUSAND — people in the door will get a white Alabama t-shirt. The venue only holds 15,383 fans.
Judging by Alabama’s website, this promotion has been planned since the season began, but the Crimson Tide will be especially eager for a win after back-to-back losses. On Saturday, Alabama fell to No. 1 Auburn at home, and last night, lost to No. 15 Missouri 110-98 in Columbia. It’s the first time this season they’ve lost consecutive games.
While both losses were to great teams, they raised some concerns about Alabama’s defense. The Crimson Tide has given up at least 80 points in four straight games and seven of their last nine. They’re now tenth in the SEC in KenPom defensive efficiency in conference play; Kentucky is 14th, which is yet another indicator that Saturday’s game in Coleman will be a shootout, just like the first meeting, a 102-97 Alabama win.
Pulling off an upset in Tuscaloosa without Lamont Butler and/or Jaxson Robinson is a tall ask, but if the Cats can string together some stops and make their shots (looking at you, Koby Brea), they may be able to ruin Alabama’s White T-Shirt Party.

Dickie V joining Karl Ravech and Jimmy Dykes on the call
Another sign Saturday is a big game: Dick Vitale is on the call. Dickie V will join Karl Ravech and Jimmy Dykes courtside at Coleman Coliseum, the first time he’s called a Kentucky game since returning to the sidelines following his most recent battle with cancer. After a two-year hiatus, Vitale’s first game back was Duke at Clemson on Feb. 8. Last week, he returned to Cameron Indoor Stadium to call the Blue Devils’ lopsided win over Stanford.
You better believe Dickie V is excited to see the Cats in person. He’s already talked to Mark Pope and Nate Oats to preview the matchup and loved what he saw from Kentucky in the second half vs. Vanderbilt.
