Alvin Brooks III officially named associate head coach under Mark Pope
And just like that, Kentucky has one of the best coaching staffs in college basketball — officially. Cody Fueger, Jason Hart and Mark Fox had already been announced by the school, and now, Alvin Brooks III has made it four.
The prized Baylor assistant and Scott Drew’s right-hand man has been named associate head coach under Mark Pope, Kentucky made official Thursday. His time in Lexington comes after spending the last eight seasons as the top assistant in Waco, helping lead the Bears to a national championship in 2021.
Now, he’s officially a Wildcat.
“Alvin Brooks is a national champion coach, three times over,” Pope said. “He is one of the most highly regarded tacticians, recruiters and relationship-builders in all of college basketball. He’s been mentored by some of the great coaches of the game, including Bruce Weber and Scott Drew. He and his wife, Tiffany, and their sons AJ and Austin are going to be a big part of Big Blue Nation and help us bring home No. 9.”
Baylor went 194-72 with Brooks on staff, including a 94-46 record in Big 12 action, 12-5 in NCAA Tournament games and 22-15 against Associated Press top-10 ranked foes.

“I am so excited to join Coach Pope and his staff and be a part of the Big Blue Nation,” Brooks said. “I’m very appreciative of the opportunity to join a storied program, with such a passionate fan base as we chase banners together. My family and I are grateful to Coach Pope and Mitch Barnhart and I can’t wait to get started.”
Brooks III, widely considered one of the top assistants in college basketball, follows in his father’s footsteps to Lexington — Alvin Brooks II, now the head coach at Lamar, was the director of operations under Billy Gillisipie from 2007-09. Now, he’ll be wearing blue and white nearly two decades later as Pope’s top assistant.
