Kentucky legacy recruit Amaree Williams reclassifies to 2024
Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) The Benjamin School rising junior Amaree Williams has long been of Kentucky’s top prospects in the class of 2025. The blue-chip recruit has camped and made multiple unofficial visits to Lexington. Williams was in Lexington last month for a game visit.
The son of former Kentucky star tailback Moe Williams is a legacy recruit for the Wildcats. However, this recruitment is changing at the last minute. Per Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, the younger Williams is reclassifying to the class of 2024 and will take an official visit to Florida State this weekend.
That does not appear to be a great development for Kentucky.
Amaree Williams was likely going to be Kentucky’s top target at EDGE in the 2025 cycle. The Wildcats have already loaded up at that position in 2024. Kentucky currently has four EDGE commitments highlighted by blue-chip recruits Brian Robinson and Jacob Smith. A logjam is forming in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
As of right now, it’s hard to imagine Amaree Williams following in his father’s footsteps. Moe Williams was a first-team All-SEC selection in 1995 setting the Kentucky program’s single-season rushing yards (1,600) mark that has stood for 28 years. Williams was the program’s all-time leading rusher until Benny Snell Jr. re-wrote the record books with 3,873 rushing yards. A third-round pick in the 1995 NFL Draft, the older Williams would spend a decade in pro football playing for the Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens.

Kentucky will likely continue to recruit Williams, but this is a battle that could be ending soon thanks to this late reclassification.
