Amari Williams clarifies he did NOT snub Georgia State's Clash Peters in postgame handshake line
Amari Williams and Clash Peters probably won’t exchange Christmas cards this year. The two could barely exchange a handshake following Kentucky’s 105-76 win over Georgia State.
Let me set the scene first…
With 12:37 to go in the second half, Williams was tossed to the ground by Peters of Georgia State after appearing to undercut the Kentucky big man, which set off a scuffle in the middle of the floor. Koby Brea responded by pushing Peters, which sparked even more shoving from both sides. Brea and Otega Oweh were hit with technical fouls while Peters (who was ejected immediately upon the incident only to be brought back after the officials reviewed the play) and Zarique Nutter received technicals as well. Peters was also hit with a flagrant.
Even Kentucky head coach Mark Pope stormed onto the court to hold Nutter back from escalating things further. This scuffle was brewing since the beginning of the game as Peters played the role of instigator. But all it did was fuel Kentucky. At the time of the skirmish, UK led just 61-53. The Wildcats ended the game on a 44-23 run.
After the game clock finally ran out, both sides met for the traditional postgame handshake. Upon first watch, it appeared that Williams might have snubbed Peters in the handshake line (with Brea sending some words his way), but Williams made sure to quickly clear the air. He took to social media afterward to share that he “did shake (Peters’) hand”.

“Lol chill I did shake his hand. Great win tho.”
Not only did Peters’ action fuel Kentucky to the 29-point win, but it also fueled Williams’ individual play. The seven-footer finished his night with 14 points on 4-6 shooting (6-6 from the free throw line) with six rebounds, three assists (to just one turnover), and one steal in 20 minutes. But after the second-half incident, he went for 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
As for Peters, the 6-foot-9 freshman forward finished his night with zero points, zero rebounds, zero assists, and three turnovers before ultimately fouling out after 12 minutes of game time.
