Georgia Amoore named a finalist for Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award

Georgia Amoore has undoubtedly been the best point guard in the SEC, and as it turns out, when you’re the best point guard in the best conference in basketball, you’re going to end up being one of the best point guards in the country too.
On Monday, the 5-foot-6 Australian product was one of five players that was named a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award. Amoore joins Notre Dame’s Olivia Miles, Texas’ Rori Harmon, UCLA’s Kiki Rice and UConn’s Paige Bueckers.
Among the finalists, Amoore averages the most points per game (18.8) and the most assists per game (6.9). Those 6.9 assists per game rank third nationally, sitting just behind Drake’s Katie Dinnebier (7.5) and Kansas State’s Serena Sundell (7.1). She led Kentucky to a 22-6 (11-5 SEC) record in the regular season, helping put the Cats in position for a double bye in the SEC Tournament.

Amoore was a double-digit scorer in each of Kentucky’s 28 regular season games except for one — the 76-53 win over Illinois. She did record eight assists and two steals against the Fighting Illini, however. None of the other finalists accomplished that feat, Miles and Bueckers being the closest with only two games not reaching double-digits in the scoring column.
The Kentucky point guard averaged 17.8 points and 6.7 assists per game against ranked opponents. Against Oklahoma, Amoore tied the program record for points in a single game (43), and this season, she became the third player in Division I women’s basketball history to tally 2,300 career points and 800 career assists, joining Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark.
