Kentucky was a finalist for Andrej Stojakovic this time last year as the former McDonald’s All-American explored his portal options following his freshman season at Stanford. A visit to Lexington was in the works as the four-star, top-25 recruit inched closer toward a decision with Cal and North Carolina the other schools in consideration.

Then, an abrupt announcement, choosing to suit up for the Golden Bears before Mark Pope could get him on campus.

Stojakovic, the son of longtime NBA veteran and three-time All-Star Peja Stojakovic, was interested in the Wildcats, but it wasn’t enough to get him to leave his home state of California.

“Coach Pope’s playing style over the past couple of years at BYU is definitely intriguing,” Stojakovic told KSR+ at the time. “Just playing fast and being able to shoot a lot is something that speaks to me. … It’ll definitely be exciting to see what Coach Pope can do for the program. I don’t know much. I’ve never been to the state of Kentucky, but I’ve heard a bunch of great things about the fanbase.”

A year later, Stojakovic is back in the portal after a dynamite sophomore season at Cal, averaging 17.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest in the ACC. He shot just 42.7 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from three, but was 81.8 percent at the line and, like we saw with Jaland Lowe at Pitt, was the best player on a bad ACC team that finished 14-19 on the year and 15th in the league. A lot was on his plate as a do-it-all scorer, but what could he be with real talent around him on a legitimate contender?

Kentucky could help him answer that question — assuming Pope will have interest in bringing the former blue-chip recruit in to fill that wing shooting and scoring role he’s been looking for. If the Wildcats made a serious push the first go-round, it should be expected they will again after a better second season in college for the 6-7, 205-pound guard from Carmichael, CA.

Could this be the guy, BBN? We’ll see the schools with confirmed contact in the near future once his name officially hits the portal. There is an obvious fit in Lexington.
