Andrew Carr also got engaged on Kentucky's trip to New York City
Love is officially in the air for the Kentucky Basketball team. Yesterday, Collin Chandler shared that he got engaged during the Wildcats’ trip to New York City for the CBS Sports Classic. Turns out he wasn’t the only one.
Andrew Carr also proposed to his girlfriend. Like Chandler, he popped the question in Central Park, albeit in a different location, a gazebo adorned with candles. The special moment took place on Sunday, a day after the Cats lost to Ohio State. Carr’s girlfriend is a field hockey player for the University of Delaware, where Carr played his first two years of college basketball.
“Here’s to us!! Love you forever,” Carr wrote on Instagram with the Bible verse 1 John 4:19, which is “We love because he first loved us.”
Carr is averaging 11.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season for Kentucky, starting all 12 contests. After starting his career at Delaware, he transferred to Wake Forest in 2022 and spent two seasons with the Demon Deacons, averaging 13.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last year. He graduated from Wake Forest with a degree in communications and is now working on a graduate degree in Sports, Fitness, and Recreation Management at UK.
When Carr transferred to Kentucky, Mark Pope said the 6’11” forward was “born to play” in his system, comparing him to NBA All-Star Lauri Markkanen.

“Andrew Carr is born to play for me. The first time we talked on the phone, we just — it’s almost like we live in a shared experience. I feel like I really know him and I feel like he really knows me. His game fits exactly how this game is being pushed, the edges of this game. You’re always looking for the edges of the game where the game is evolving and he fits exactly what we’re trying to do in terms of his experience, in terms of his skillset, in terms of his mentality.”
On last night’s call-in show, Pope said he wanted to see more from Carr, specifically from the three-point line. Carr averaged one made three per game during his time at Wake Forest; he’s down to 0.4 at Kentucky, going 0-5 from beyond the arc in his last four games.
Shoot more threes, help Kentucky win a title, and plan a wedding? Carr’s got a busy 2025 ahead of him.
