NBA Draft prep started early for Andrew Carr. The former Kentucky forward spent a week in Newport News, Va. at the Portsmouth Invitational. After a week of practices and three games, he’s leaving with mixed reviews.

Carr was exceptional in his second game, scoring a team-high 19 points while knocking down 3-6 three-point attempts. He also had five rebounds in 23 minutes.

The former Kentucky Wildcat followed up that performance with one that mirrored his debut. On Saturday night, he was 2-11 from the field in 19 minutes. Carr knocked down a couple of free throws to finish with six points, four rebounds, and two blocks in a three-point loss.

The Portsmouth Invitational is a showcase for players who might not necessarily get a chance to perform in front of NBA scouts at the Combine. Carr is one of those fringe players who’s trying to captivate scouts. Ahead of the NCAA Tournament, ESPN ranked the stretch-four as the No. 93 Draft prospect in this year’s class.

If his outside shot is falling, Carr can provide value at the next level. Unfortunately, it was a bit too inconsistent over the weekend. He was a combined 0-7 from three in games 1 and 3.

The former Delaware Blue Hen and Wake Forest Demon Deacon still has plenty of tape for NBA scouts. In his lone season at Kentucky, Carr averaged 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, shooting 54.4 percent from the floor and 32.4 percent from three. He was limited by back problems during the middle of the season but rounded into form as the season drew to a close, scoring in double figures in five of Kentucky’s final eight games.

Across his five-year college career, Carr totaled 1,647 points (including 117 three-pointers) and 827 rebounds across stops at Delaware, Wake Forest, and Kentucky.
