Announcing...The Bobby Perry Skills Development Camp
Millions of dollars are spent every summer by parents to send their youngins to sports camps. Growing up a UNC fan and attending the "Dean SmithBasketball School" I know first hand just how much money was spent and how much was gotten out of it. What did I get out of it? A few days away from my parents to to eat all the junk food I wanted. A chance to meet some of the current and former players. Shake hands and take a picture with Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge. Participate in offensive and defensive drills, compete in free throw competitions and play in a few league games. And perhaps the best part of camp was being around complete strangers but still finding a way to bond and have the time of our lives.
Every year my Dad would ask me the same questions when I got home from camp, "Did you learn anything to help you improve your game?" My response year after year was the same, "not really." Then he would go on to ask, "Did you have fun?" My response every year, "Yes!" Looking back at those conversations I ask myself why cant UNC, UK or any other large school have a camp that helps kids improve their individual skills and at the same time provide an environment for them to have just as much fun? I am sure we could sit here and think of tons of reasons but the main one is the size of the camp.
For MOST having having fun and enjoying their experience at camp is all kids and parents really care about. However, there are those out there that I have spoken to that want a camp that not only provides that fun environment but at the same time teaches kids the RIGHT way to improve their game. Large university camps bring in high school coaches across the state to run drills and stations that have been pre-arranged by the camp directors. Because there are so many kids that attend these camps coaching and instructing turns into babysitting.
So, for those who are looking for the whole experience in a camp that not only gives kids the opportunity to have fun but also REALLY improve their skills I will be hosting the first Bobby Perry Skills Development Camp featuring Mike Zeillmann.
