Anthony Davis and John Wall named finalists for NBA Cares award for community outreach

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="825"] (Photo by Chris Reynolds, CoachCal.com)[/caption] With news breaking earlier today that Steph Curry will be named NBA MVP for the second consecutive season it is only a matter of time before our guy Anthony Davis finds out if he's going to be $24 million dollars richer by making an All-NBA team. How's the browed one spending his time while he awaits the news about an enormous payday? Well, if the past season has been any indication he's probably using his time to give back. His generosity this year has earned the future MVP a finalist spot for the NBA Cares award. From the New Orleans advocate:

Davis, who won the monthly Community Assist Award in March, joins Carmelo Anthony, Mike Conley, Andre Drummond, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Zach Lavine, Damian Lillard, Victor Oladipo and John Wall as finalists for the award. The NBA and Kaiser Permanente will donate $25,000 to the winner's charity of choice. A panel of NBA judges and a fan vote will determine the seasonlong winner. Fans can vote through May 18 via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #NBACommunityAssist and a hashtag with the player's first and last name, e.g. #AnthonyDavis. This season, Davis and AD's Flight Academy served a Thanksgiving meal to residents of the New Orleans Mission; treated 150 local kids from Boys Hope Girls Hope, Raintree Child Services and Kingsley House to a $100 Toys R Us shopping spree along with teammate Ryan Anderson; hosted 150 kids from a local YMCA for a day of laser tag and video games; and held a basketball clinic and pizza party for 100 kids from Kingsley House. Davis spent $50,000 to provide tickets for more than 6,400 underprivileged kids to attend Pelicans games, a $20,000 increase from the 2014-15 season. Davis also again donated a "Bowling with the Brow" experience to the annual Toast for the Coast Gala's live auction. Over the past two seasons, that package has raised $30,000 for educational programming on coastal restoration. In addition to his Flight Academy, Davis is in the early stages of establishing the Anthony Davis Foundation, which will donate money to causes Davis still is in the process of determining.

John Wall is also a finalist for the award and I'm sure other former Cats like DeMarcus Cousins were in the running as well. Most of Cal's NBA guys have transitioned their success into an opportunity to help others in need. Makes you proud to be able to call them Wildcats.
