Anthony Davis At It Again
What many in the NBA community had said over the summer may have seemed like offseason hyperbole to some, that Anthony Davis had a chance to make the step from promising, young prospect and into the MVP discussion in his 3rd year. Two games into the 2014-15 season, it appears that they weren’t off base at all.
After a dominating 26 point, 17 rebound, 9 block performance on Opening Night against Orlando, AD backed up his near triple-double with another MVP-caliber performance tonight against a much more quality opponent in the Dallas Mavericks. The 21-year old put up 31 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks, but despite his efforts couldn’t push his team over the top in their 109-104 loss.
There is no question that with games like these becoming commonplace over this summers’ Team USA run in the FIBA World Cup and the first two games of the NBA season, Davis will put up the numbers required to win an MVP. What will really make the difference for Davis’ MVP candidacy is whether or not the Pelicans can climb out of the cellar of the extremely difficult Western Conference and into the playoff race. We all saw this coming since around November of 2011, but seeing one of Kentucky’s own become an undisputed titan of the game has been incredible to watch.
