Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison shocked the sports world when he traded away superstar Luka Doncic for Los Angeles Lakers big Anthony Davis. Since the acquisition, Dallas has been talking about how much this is a win now move and that they value defense.

But this trade did not take long to go the wrong way.

Anthony Davis is now “expected to miss multiple weeks” after suffering an injury in the 116-105 Dallas victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday. Davis recorded 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks in his debut with the Mavs. Unfortunately, the former national champion at Kentucky will be out of the lineup for a critical period with the playoff push quickly approaching.

Dallas fans are not going to be happy with this development. This injury came shortly after Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont called out Doncic’s work ethic. Availability was a reported problem with Doncic. Now Dallas will not have a core piece for a long stretch just one game into his tenure.

Anthony Davis, 31, has had durability issues throughout his career having only played over 70 games three times in 13 seasons. That 70-game threshold will not be reached this season. The 10-time All-Star and four-time first-team All-NBA selection is averaging 25.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.2 blocks on .528/.313/.786 shooting splits in 34.2 minutes per game.

The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft is having another star season, but will now remain a central talking point in the sports world. One of the wildest trades in recent professional sports history will not leave the news cycle anytime soon.
