A total of four Kentucky alums have been named to the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.

After Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC) and Karl-Anthony Towns (NYK) were voted as two of the 10 starters last week, two more former Wildcats were announced as reserves by the NBA on TNT crew Thursday night. Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis and Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro were listed as two of the 14 reserves for next month’s All-Star Game.

While it’s not as many as the seven Kentucky players named to the 2024 All-Star Game, four is still pretty impressive for this go around. This marks the 10th All-Star nomination for Davis and the first for Herro. The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is set for Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Chase Center in San Francisco, CA.

Davis, who was recently injured and could possibly have his spot replaced if he’s not healthy in the coming weeks, was a no-brainer as a reserve pick. The 31-year-old is having another terrific (and mostly healthy until this week) season for the Los Angeles Lakers. Playing alongside LeBron James (who was named to his 21st All-Star Game), Davis has the Lakers sitting on a 26-19 record, good enough for fifth in the Western Conference.

Now in his 13th season as a pro, Davis is posting per-game averages of 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 1.3 steals in 34.3 minutes per outing. The 6-foot-10 big man is shooting 52.8 percent from the field and 78.8 percent from the free throw line. He’s started in 42 games this season out of a possible 45. Davis suffered an abdominal muscle strain on Tuesday and is expected to miss at least one week.

As for Herro, the 25-year-old is having his best season yet in year six as a pro. The 2022 NBA Sixth Man of the Year has turned into a full-blown star this season for Miami. He’s averaging a career-high 24.1 points per outing to go along with 5.6 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 35.5 minutes. His shooting numbers are among the best of his time with the Heat: 47.4 percent from the field, 40 percent from deep, and 86.6 percent from the line.

Even more impressive is how Herro has been producing this season. Miami is 23-23 this season and has faced plenty of drama along the way, namely from Jimmy Butler, who has been suspended on and off over the last several weeks as the front office looks to trade him. On top of that, Herro’s co-star, Bam Adebayo, is having a surprisingly poor season. Herro is having to do… well… just about everything on offense for his team. The reward is a deserved All-Star nod.

This year’s All-Star Game format will look different than in years past. The 2025 edition will see the 24 All-Stars split into three teams of eight. A fourth team, the winner of the Rising Stars event, will participate as well. The four teams will participate in a mini-tournament where three games will be played before a winner is crowned.
