As Kentucky shooting guard Antonio Reeves contemplates a decision to turn pro or return to college, he’s giving NBA scouts a first-hand look this weekend at what they could be getting out of the 6-foot-4 sharpshooter.

This weekend in Chicago, ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft Combine, the G League Elite Camp is taking place as a prelude to the Combine. The event runs from May 13-14 at Wintrust Arena and provides hopeful NBA prospects with the shot to earn an invitation to the actual Combine, which begins on Monday and runs through Sunday, May 21.

A pair of Kentucky Wildcats were invited to participate, Reeves and forward Jacob Toppin, the latter having elected to forgo his remaining college eligibility. For whatever reason, Toppin did not make the trip, but Reeves was in action for his first game session on Saturday and will gear up for the second and final game on Sunday evening.

Coming off the bench for “Team 3”, Reeves didn’t have the best outing in his debut on Saturday, finishing with just four points and three rebounds. He shot 2-8 overall from the floor and went 0-3 from distance in nearly 20 minutes of action.

Reeves teamed up alongside a couple of familiar faces in Alabama’s Mark Sears and Florida’s Colin Castleton. “Team 3” beat “Team 4” 86-81 with Reeves watching from the bench down the stretch of a close battle. He did show off this pretty reserve layup move on the baseline, though.

For most Kentucky basketball lovers, seeing this type of performance from Reeves is a bit of a double-edged sword. On one side, fans would all like to see Reeves perform well and stand out in front of the scouts and NBA personnel in hopes of earning a Combine invite. But at the same time, a poor performance from Reeves could help push him back to Kentucky for another season where he would immediately bring a key scoring threat back to the Wildcats’ still-under-construction roster.

Reeves will have a chance at redemption later on Sunday. He’ll take the floor again for “Team 3” at 4:20 p.m. EST. A live stream is available over at the NBA G League’s YouTube channel.
