Antonio Reeves is on a scoring streak that hasn't been done since 2019
Lost in the celebration of Reed Sheppard‘s 32-point showing and game-winning shot against the Mississippi State Bulldogs was another stellar performance from Antonio Reeves.
Sheppard 100 percent deserves the praise being directed his way — he essentially willed Kentucky to the win down the stretch, after all. But let’s not lose sight of the fact that Reeves once again put together another All-American-esque outing against the Bulldogs. Had it not been for his terrific start to the second half (10 points in the first nine minutes), Sheppard likely wouldn’t have been in a position to win the game for UK right before the buzzer.
Here’s what Reeves did against the Bulldogs on Tuesday night: 21 points (14 after halftime) on 8-15 shooting, two rebounds, two assists, one steal, and zero turnovers in a team-high 37 minutes played. For those keeping track at home, that is the fourth straight game Reeves has registered at least 20 points.
The last Kentucky player to pull that off? PJ Washington all the way back in February 2019. In addition to 21 points against MSU, Reeves also poured in 22 points on the road against Auburn, 25 on the road against LSU, and 24 at home against Alabama — all in a 10-day span.
Just another bullet point on a season-long resume that is beginning to stack up with the best of the best of the John Calipari era at Kentucky.

This isn’t anything new from Reeves at this point in the season, but it should certainly be talked about even more than it already is. There might not be a more steady and reliable scorer in all of college basketball than the former Illinois State transfer. He’s topped 20 points in nine of his last 14 outings.
Through 28 games played this season (all starts), Reeves is now averaging 19.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in 31.6 minutes per contest. He’s shooting 50.1 percent overall, 44.2 percent from distance, and 87.9 percent from the free throw line — just a few more made freebies at the stripe away from joining the elusive 50/40/90 club.
Tuesday night marked Reeves’ 17th (yes, SEVENTEENTH) 20-point outing of the season — seven of them coming away from Rupp Arena. He’s dropped at least 15 points in all nine of Kentucky’s true road games. Only once this season has he failed to register double-digits, which happened during a nine-point performance in a win over North Carolina (he played a season-low 23 minutes in that one, by the way).
There’s no other way to slice it at this point: Reeves is one of the best players to ever suit up for Kentucky during Calipari’s tenure in Lexington. Don’t take him for granted.
