Antonio Reeves tabbed to Jerry West Award Watch List
Throughout the week, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is unveiling watch lists for all five positions ahead of the upcoming 2023-24 season. On Monday, Kentucky freshman DJ Wagner made the Bob Cousy Award (nation’s top point guard) Watch List. A day later, another Wildcat was listed on a different Watch List.
On Tuesday, Kentucky fifth-year guard Antonio Reeves was tabbed to the Jerry West Award (nation’s top shooting guard) Watch list. Reeves, who made this list last season and was named to the Preseason All-SEC Second Team last week, is one of 20 candidates to make the initial list. Malik Monk (2016-17) is the only Wildcat to have won the award, which is in its 10th year of existence.
Reeves is one of three upperclassmen on scholarship for this year’s Kentucky team and is the leading returning scorer from 2022-23. The 6-foot-5 sharpshooter averaged 14.4 points per game on 39.8 percent three-point shooting as a true senior before lighting up the competition over the summer at GLOBL JAM in Canada. While there, Reeves averaged a team-high 23 points per game on 57.9 overall shooting and an elite 56.3 percent clip from beyond the arc.
Fans will play an integral part in helping choose the eventual winner. Fan voting begins Friday, Oct. 27. Once we hit late January, the list of 20 candidates will be cut down to 10, then widdled down to just five by late February. A winner will be announced in March. The same goes for the Bob Cousy Award and the remaining positional awards that will be revealed later in the week.

Along with the Bob Cousy and Jerry West honors, the Julius Erving Award (nation’s top small forward), Karl Malone Award (power forward), and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award (center) help make up the Naismith Starting Five. Don’t be surprised if more Wildcats make the cut for those awards in the coming days.
Reeves and the rest of the Kentucky Wildcats will tip off the 2023-24 season this Friday when they host Georgetown College at Rupp Arena in the first of two preseason exhibition games.
