Anyone excited for NFL Schedule Release Day or just me?

The National Football League will release its full 2022 schedule later this evening with all 272 games and their dates for the 18-week regular season. And because the NFL can do whatever it wants and fans will pay attention, the league is revealing its entire 2022 slate on a live television special across multiple platforms. An announcement that could’ve been a morning press release to the masses, will instead be stretched over three hours on NFL Network, ESPN2, and FS1.

It’s absurd and so unnecessary, especially since each team’s 2022 opponents were announced months ago. This is simply putting a date to each game… and I can’t wait to watch it, as silly as it is. It’s for fall planning purposes.

So far, many games have already been leaked or formally announced as marquee games, and new leaks will continue to surface all the way up until the special airs at 8 PM. But first, at 6 PM, all Week 1 games will be revealed to drum up excitement for the announcement of the other 17 weeks.

Again, this is all so silly and could’ve been an e-mail.

But since it’s a thing and it’s here, let’s get you ready for this over-the-top night of NFL scheduling. Here is some information to know about the new made-up holiday in professional football and the 2022 regular season schedule as we know it at this moment in time.

Week 1 games already announced or leaked

If you’re too excited to wait for the 6 o’clock announcement of opening weekend, find your team among the following matchups that have already been reported.

Thursday, Sept.

Bills at Rams

Sunday, Sept. 11

Saints at Falcons

Ravens at Jets

Panthers at Browns

Eagles at Lions

Giants at Titans

Steelers at Bengals

Jaguars at Commanders

49ers at Bears

Joe Burrow on Thanksgiving Day rumors

Yesterday there was some online buzz about the Cincinnati Bengals being the Dallas Cowboys’ home opponent on Thanksgiving Day. For all the Bengals fans reading this site, of which there are many, how exciting would that be?!

Before you get too excited, there has been growing chatter that Cincinnati will instead travel to Dallas the second weekend of the season for a Week 2 date in Jerry World, which is obviously not as awesome as the coveted Turkey Day time slot.

The Bengals also travel to Nashville again this fall for a rematch of last year’s AFC divisional round against the Titans. It’s one of the reasons I’m keeping a close eye on the schedule release, to put that trip on the calendar.

Some schedules have already leaked

Take the Saints for instance. This guy just tweeted New Orleans’ entire schedule, which includes the Bengals’ trip to Bourbon Street during Week 6.

The Packers’ home schedule leaked Wednesday night.

Titan Up on Thursday Night Football, Week 11.

Potential debuts for Kentucky’s draft picks

As you may have seen in the Week 1 leaks, Wan’Dale Robinson is set to make his NFL debut close to home when his New York Football Giants travel to somewhat-nearby Nashville to play the Titans. Though on the road, Robinson should feel some extra support in Nissan Stadium coming from just across the Tennessee-Kentucky border.

That same Sunday, Josh Paschal’s Detroit Lions host the Philadelphia Eagles in Detroit, while Luke Fortner will be in our nation’s capital with the Jaguars to open up against the Commanders and Fortner’s former Kentucky teammate, Jamin Davis.

The first week destination for Darian Kinnard and the Chiefs has not been announced.

How To Watch The 2022 NFL Schedule Release

Assuming all 272 games aren’t leaked before the show begins, here’s how to follow the drama:

Time: 8-11 PM ET

TV: NFL Network, ESPN2, FS1

Other: NFL.com/watch, NFL app, ESPN app
