At The Half: Kentucky 13, Miami-Ohio 10
Through two quarters at the home opener, Kentucky leads Miami (Ohio) by only three points after a frustrating first half by the Wildcats.
First, Kentucky’s defense allowed a 13-play, 75-yard opening drive to put the RedHawks on the board with the game’s first touchdown. Kentucky responded with a quick, five-play scoring drive of its own before two costly mistakes spoiled more touchdown fun. One was Will Levis’ interception inside the 5-yard-line, erasing a good look at seven more points. Then on the following Kentucky drive, Izayah Cummings dropped a wide-open touchdown pass and the ‘Cats settled for three. Miami responded with a 48-yard field goal of its own to tie the game up at 10 until Matt Ruffolo put UK back on top, 13-10, at the end of the first half.
Now for some positivity. Tayvion Robinson is off to a great start as the new go-to target in the passing attack. The Virginia Tech transfer already has five receptions for 123 yards in his debut game in Lexington. Next to the new Robinson, Dane Key has two catches for 36 yards and tight end Brenden Bates scored the first touchdown of the season with his six-yard scoring grab, Kentucky’s only touchdown of the game. To keep that going, the Big Blue Wall will need to step up and give Levis some better protection.
