At The Half: Kentucky 50, Kentucky State 20
Unlike last week, Kentucky wasted no time pulling away in its second preseason exhibition game. The Wildcats jumped all over Kentucky State from the start and now lead by 30 points at halftime, 50-20.
In the beginning, John Calipari started the same five as Friday night’s exhibition against Georgetown, rolling out DJ Wagner, Antonio Reeves, Justin Edwards, Adou Thiero, and Tre Mitchell to open the game. The Wildcats trailed only momentarily when the Thorobreds’ Josiah Mitchell hit an early three-pointer to go up 3-2.
But from there, it was all Kentucky once Edwards regained the lead on the next trip up the floor. Edwards scored 10 of Kentucky’s first 12 points, second to only Wagner in first-half scoring. The fast start by Edwards and Wagner was in response to their quiet scoring efforts in the first exhibition game. The two top-rated recruits in Kentucky’s freshman class have a combined 22 at halftime, outscoring Kentucky State alone.
Wagner’s 12 are the team-high. Kentucky is halfway to 100.
