Through one half of preseason basketball in Lexington, your University of Kentucky Wildcats lead our friends and neighbors from Georgetown College, 35-34, in the first of two exhibition games for Kentucky. Down all three of the team’s seven-footers, John Calipari debuted a starting five of DJ Wagner, Antonio Reeves, Justin Edwards, Adou Thiero, and Tre Mitchell to match up with the experienced Tigers. Georgetown returned eight rotation players from last year’s Final Four run.

In the first 20 minutes, Reeves and Reed Sheppard carried the scoring load with 15 points between them for the Wildcats. However, it was very clear that Kentucky’s defense has a long way to go until Calipari has his full complement of players. Shot selection was also poor, in addition to a 22 percent clip from 3-point range. But, they’re young, and it’s the first dress rehearsal.

Read up on the first-half stats until play resumes at Rupp Arena.
