Add another intriguing name to the list of possibilities for John Calipari and the Kentucky basketball program this offseason.

After just one season at Auburn, former North Oldham standout Justin Powell has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal, with the 6-foot-6 guard confirming the news with 247Sports.

“I’m very thankful for my time at Auburn,” Powell told 247Sports. “Thank you to Bruce Pearl, the Auburn staff, my teammates, the trainers, doctors and everyone at Auburn but I felt that this was the best decision for me at this time.”

Powell, a 6-foot-6 guard originally out of Prospect, KY, averaged 11.7 points on 42.9% shooting and 44.2% from three to go with 6.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists per contest for the Tigers. His freshman campaign was limited to just ten games due to a concussion that held him out of competition since January 2.

“He is a terrific scorer. And he scores—I know how he’s shooting the ball,” UK head coach John Calipari said of Powell back on Jan. 15. “He’s probably their highest percentage 3-point shooter. They had him at point and he was fine. He was scoring all kinds of different ways for them. I think with Sharife (Cooper) there, he’ll be pushed back a little bit, but I think he’ll get minutes because he can shoot. But, you know, he’s another one. He’s a good player.”

Out of high school, the former three-star prospect chose Auburn over offers from Cincinnati, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Xavier, along with interest from Kentucky, Ohio State, Purdue and Syracuse. He was rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN and a three-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals.

As a senior at North Oldham, Powell was tabbed all-state and all-league after averaging 24.7 points on 59% shooting to go with 8.7 rebounds per game.

Expect Kentucky to get involved here.
