The Kentucky-Texas game had already been decided when Otega Oweh hit a running 35-footer at the buzzer in Austin. With the Wildcats down by seven and the clock ticking away, Oweh sank the long-distanced 3 to reach the 20-point mark for the seventh time this season and cut the Longhorns’ final lead to four on the scoreboard, an 82-78 win.

The seemingly meaningless buzzer-beater had a much greater impact in the sportsbooks, where Texas closed as a 4.5-point betting favorite at tip-off in most places. Oweh’s inconsequential 3 at the end of the game flipped the result against the 4.5-point spread, sending Kentucky bettors, not Texas bettors, to the window with a winning ticket.

The impact didn’t stop there. With a total of 158.5 on the game, the late heave brought the final tally from 157 to 160 points, a bad beat for the under. So, Oweh’s last shot flipped the script on both the point spread and the total.

What’s that old saying? It meant more to some than others. I hope you were on the right side if you partook.

Another double-digit game for Oweh

Oweh’s 20-point game at Texas extended his streak of double-digit scoring games to 25. Oweh is the only player in the Southeastern Conference and only one of 11 players in the country who scored in double figures in every game this season.

Oweh will match Malik Monk’s school record of 30 consecutive double-figure games if he can do it five more times.

At Texas, Oweh went 8 for 18 from the field with the one made 3-pointer on five attempts.

“Oweh is a real problem”

Texas head coach Rodney Terry got caught in 4K talking about Otega Oweh during the game. Terry told one of his assistants, “Oweh is a real problem.”

Several people probably felt that way when Oweh’s last shot went in.
