Baker Mayfield sounds confident Liam Coen is going to be in Tampa Bay
Reports surfaced early this morning from NFL Media that the Buccaneers are working to finalize a deal with Liam Coen to bring the Kentucky offensive coordinator to Tampa Bay. Even though it’s not a done deal, the Tampa Bay quarterback sounded excited to team back up with Coen.
Baker Mayfield is currently in Orlando for the Pro Bowl Games. The former No. 1 overall pick’s career was in jeopardy when he teamed up with Coen two seasons ago. Now he’s at the Pro Bowl Games after leading the Bucs to a playoff win.
“I got to work with Liam in L.A.,” Mayfield told Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “Great guy. Really, really great guy. If they lock that down for sure, it’s a similar system. Same system, just some different terminology in how he wants to call things. There’s something to say about that with continuity in the offense for skill guys and the offensive line. It’s important to have.”
Mayfield echoed the reports from earlier. He believes a deal is in the process of being finalized.
How long will it take for Coen to sign a contract? The offensive coordinator’s camp isn’t willing to say that it will actually happen.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported this morning, “No deal is in place and the situation remains fluid for now.” KSR received similar intel from Coen’s camp. As of this morning, no official offer had been made and contract terms had not been discussed. Take that for what you will.
