After days (weeks?) of wondering when he’d arrive, Bam Adebayo is finally in Orlando.

The Miami Heat big man and one-time Kentucky Wildcat was one of two Miami players that were not with the rest of the team for the NBA’s restart down at the Walt Disney World Resort. Adebayo, along with rookie Kendrick Nunn, arrived earlier on Tuesday and they will now have to quarantine for 36-48 hours before they can begin participating in team activities. According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, both players have to return two consecutive negative tests for COVID-19 that are spread at least 24 hours apart.

Adebayo is one of the final NBA players to land in Orlando, as the majority of players and teams arrived from July 9-11. It has yet to be disclosed as to why his arrival in Orlando was delayed. There had been a few other players across the league who had to delay their arrival due to positive coronavirus tests, although it has not been confirmed if Adebayo ever tested positive.

Preseason games tip-off on Wednesday and the Heat are scheduled to play its first exhibition game at 8 p.m., which Adebayo will be forced to miss. The earliest preseason game he could potentially play in will be on July 25 when Miami faces the Utah Jazz. The season officially begins on July 30, meaning that, in total, Adebayo will have under nine days from the time he arrived in Orlando to the Heat’s first regular-season game.

Miami will begin the restart as the fourth-best team in the Eastern Conference and are guaranteed to make the playoffs. The good news they’ll be able to ease Adebayo back into the fold with eight regular-season games before the postseason. As long as he can get into a rhythm come playoff time, this delay will just be a minor inconvenience in an already inconvenient circumstance.
