Kentucky junior wide receiver Barion Brown is a bonafide weapon as a returner. The former top-100 recruit led college football in kickoff return average (36.0) and kickoff return touchdowns (three) in 2024. The Wildcats likely do not beat Louisville without Brown’s 100-yard kickoff return in the third quarter. Brown is an electric factory in the kicking game.

But No. 7 isn’t out there alone.

On Friday, Kentucky special teams coordinator Jay Boulware joined KSR to discuss Kentucky’s special teams. In a conversation with guest host Jeff Piecoro, Boulware gave props to the other 10 guys on the return team with Brown.

“These holes that these guys are executing on that unit, that’s a great unit. That’s not just a great individual. That’s not saying Barion’s not a great individual because he is,” Boulware told KSR. “He’s the fastest man in college football but there’s a whole bunch of teams that got fast guys all over their team but they can’t do what that kickoff return team did last year.”

“Three kickoff returns for a touchdown Seventeenth all-time in kickoff return average is what Barion Brown did last year.”

Barion Brown has four kickoff return touchdowns in 32 attempts. With Tayvion Robinson off to the NFL, Kentucky could look to try to use the junior on punt returns more this season. The Wildcats have a true game-changing weapon with Brown in the return game but the blockers on the kickoff return team play a big part in Brown’s success.
