Kentucky reaches out to Baylor Scheierman, per report
Yesterday, South Dakota State star Baylor Scheierman entered the transfer portal. The Summit League Player of the Year is already testing the NBA Draft waters, but if he returns to college, he’ll have plenty of high-profile suitors — including Kentucky.
Kyle Tucker is reporting that Kentucky is one of many schools that has reached out to Scheierman in the past 24 hours, along with Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Arizona, Louisville, and others. The 6’6″ guard averaged 16.2 points on 50.8% from the floor, 46.9% from three; 7.8 rebounds; and 4.5 assists as a sophomore last season. He is No. 3 in The Athletic’s transfer rankings. As Kentucky looks to rebuild its backcourt after the departures of TyTy Washington, Davion Mintz, and Kellan Grady — and potentially Shaedon Sharpe — Scheierman could be the perfect plug-and-play scorer. That’s why Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua reached out this morning, per Tucker.

Scheierman’s agent Austin Walton — who is a diehard Kentucky fan, he confessed to Tucker — said his client wants to play on the big stage and prepare for the NBA. Considering Kentucky is the betting favorite for the 2023 NCAA Tournament and John Calipari’s unparalleled record of putting players in the league, I’d say the Cats have a pretty good shot.
This courtship sounds like it’s moving fast, so while we wait for more news, check out highlights of the “Headband Wonder.” (There’s a NIL deal waiting to happen.)
