BBNBA: Anthony Davis' 38 points not enough in OT, Johnny Juzang paces Jazz in win
Anthony Davis needs some help from anyone on the Los Angeles Lakers not named LeBron James. On Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks, Davis and James were both unstoppable forces, but a lack of assistance elsewhere resulted in a crushing 134-132 overtime defeat. James missed the game-winning three-pointer right before the buzzer.
Davis has been playing arguably the best basketball of his career in 2024-25 and he continued that against the Hawks. The former Kentucky star went for 38 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, two blocks, and one steal in 41 minutes. He shot 15-27 from the field but missed all three of his shots from deep while turning the ball over six times. However, when he’s pouring in a near 40-point triple-double with James chipping in a 39-point triple-double, the Lakers should be winning these games.
Davis and James both going for 35-point double-doubles marked the first time a pair of Laker teammates have reached those numbers since Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal back in 2000. Two guys can’t do everything though. No other Laker scored more than 14 points against the Hawks. Los Angeles has now dropped three straight games and seven of its last nine to put them at a record of 12-11.
Don’t be shocked if we see some significant trade moves by this franchise between now and February.

Fox and Monk drop 22 each in a Kings win
De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk love to stay on the same page. The former Kentucky teammates have been together in Sacramento for a while now and have found plenty of success. They posted similar stat lines last night in a 140-113 blowout win for the Kings over Keldon Johnson and the San Antonio Spurs.
Fox finished with 22 points, eight assists, and four rebounds on 9-17 shooting (2-7 3PT) in 32 minutes while Monk went for 22 points, nine rebounds, and six assists on 7-15 shooting (3-8 3PT) in 34 minutes. Domantas Sabonis also chipped in 22 points for the Kings. 140 points marked a season-high for Sacramento, which moved to 11-13 with the win.
Speaking of Fox, Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry was rocking Fox’s debut signature shoe, the Curry Fox 1, last night. Curry posted 23 points, although in a 107-90 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
As for Johnson, he recorded 14 points (6-16 FG; 1-6 3PT), five rebounds, two steals, and one block in his 21 minutes for the Spurs, which was without Victor Wembanyama due to injury for the second straight outing.
Other BBNBA notes
- Everyone ate in the Utah Jazz’s 141-99 win over Shaedon Sharpe and the Portland Trail Blazers, but no one scored more points than Johnny Juzang. The Jazz guard posted a team-high 22 points on 8-14 shooting, including a 6-11 clip from beyond the arc. He also grabbed two rebounds in his 25 minutes of action during the blowout win. Nine Utah players reached double-figures to snap a five-game losing skid. Sharpe added 10 points (3-12 FG), four assists, and two rebounds in the loss for Portland, but this highlight alley-oop dunk is all I care about.
- Tyrese Maxey had a solid night in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 102-94 win over the Orlando Magic. Maxey went for 16 points (5-17 FG; 1-7 3PT), three steals, two rebounds, and two assists in 35 minutes. Joel Embiid missed his seventh straight game due to injury for Philly.
- Julius Randle nearly dropped a double-double in the Timberwolves’ 107-90 win over the Warriors, finishing with 16 points, nine rebounds, and four assists on 5-11 shooting. Rob Dillingham missed his fourth straight game for Minnesota with an ankle issue.
