The Los Angeles Lakers avoided a major upset on Thursday as they handed the Washington Wizards their 50th loss of the season in a 134-131 overtime victory. The Lakers were a 10.5-point favorite with a -520 moneyline, according to FanDuel.

One of the biggest factors in LA’s win was former ‘Cat Anthony Davis, who posted 40 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks in the win.

Davis’ 40 points marked his fourth 40-point effort this season with his last such game coming against the Toronto Raptors back on January 9th. He scored 41 points in that particular contest. Additionally, AD has now recorded 40+ points and 15+ rebounds in 20 games in his NBA career. This was also his 128th game with 15+ rebounds, which is the 25th most in NBA history.

How ’bout them apples?

Davis was unstoppable on Thursday as he shot a smooth 14-22 (64%) from the field while also going 12-13 (92%) from the free throw line. There was nothing the Wizards could do to stop AD, and he proceeded to showcase his dominance as he led his team to a much-needed win over Washington.

Other BBNBA Notes:

  • Devin Booker‘s 35 points were just enough to help the Phoenix Suns squeak by the 25-24 Houston Rockets.
  • The San Antonio Spurs snap their five-game losing streak against the OKC Thunder. Keldon Johnson scored 10 points in the win for the Spurs. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander put up 31 points in the loss for OKC while Cason Wallace added three points to the box score as well.
  • The Miami Heat fell to the Denver Nuggets as Bam Adebayo scored 22 points and grabbed eight boards in the loss. Jamal Murray only scored six points in 14 minutes as he suffered an injury to his right leg.
  • Nick Richards scored nine points as the Charlotte Hornets fell to the surging Milwaukee Bucks.
