BBNBA: Bam game-winner, Rob career-highs, and SGA dominance
The one good thing about the happenings of Saturday night is that the Earth-shattering NBA trade sending Anthony Davis from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic will vastly overshadow Kentucky’s loss across the sports media landscape. And to be fair, it should. You don’t see surprise seismic shifts like that in the league very often and for Kentucky fans with a habit of watching ESPN, it came at no better time. However, somewhere mixed into that Saturday night shuffle were some good performances by former ‘Cats in the NBA, including a game-winning buzzer-beater from Bam Adebayo.
Miami’s big man hit a mid-range jumper as time expired (over fellow Kentucky alum Keldon Johnson, no less) with the game tied to give the Heat a 105-103 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. It was part of a tremendous night for the previously slumping center, as he finished one assist shy of a triple-double with 30 points, 12 rebounds, and nine dimes.
His teammate, All-Star Tyler Herro, had 11 points and eight assists in the win.
Rob Dillingham pours in career-high in points and assists
Watch out. Rob Dillingham is finding his groove in the NBA. Dilly got shifty on his way to a career-high in both points and assists on Thursday in the Timberwolves’ blowout win over the Utah Jazz with 19 and eight. He got there on an efficient 8-11 from the field and nearly led his team in the plus-minus category at +23.
It felt like it was only a matter of time before Rob got loose in the NBA. He may reach his potential sooner than expected.
Randle goes down
Rob Dillingham’s rise coincided with Minnesota teammate Julius Randle‘s fall. Literally. A groin injury suffered in the aforementioned Dilly breakout game could keep the hefty lefty sidelined for, as his head coach put it, “A little bit.”
Get well soon. The Wolves need him.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is good at basketball
Imagine Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in Mark Pope’s offense. Imagine him in any offense. Okay, I just want SGA back in a Kentucky uniform, so what? And yes, I’m still seething about that loss to Arkansas and taking it out on random sentences in the fourth subheading of a BBNBA post.
Quade Green’s former backup and favorite to win NBA MVP this season scored 29 points, nine assists, and six rebounds in the Thunder’s win over the Kings on Saturday.

He didn’t play in the 4th quarter.
As impressive as his overall stat line was, the play of the night came on his block on Malik Monk at the rim for what would otherwise have been a vicious dunk. In a way, it served as the perfect symbolism of what went down in Rupp Arena at the same time. Painfully highlight-worthy ‘Cat on ‘Cat crime.
Tyrese Maxey is pretty good too
Besides Shai Gilegous-Alexander, Tyrese Maxey has been the most consistent member of the BBNA this season. The former ‘Cat roasted the Lakers with 42 points in the Philadelphia 76ers’ narrow loss to the Denver Nuggets on Friday night.
This made four games in a row for Maxey scoring at least 30 and two out of his last three outings scoring at least 40.
Like I said, he’s pretty good. Thinking about it, his 27.5 points per game this season is much better than Tyler Herro’s 24.1, and yet, it’s Herro going to the All-Star game. How does this or any of the sports world happenings over the weekend make sense? To quote Nate Bargatze, nobody knows.
