Hello, BBN! I am coming to you from New York City this morning before the ‘Cats take on Duke tonight. Before that, though, let’s talk about an absolutely bonkers NBA Monday night.

Curry leads Warriors to fifth straight win

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Steph Curry is a cheat code. Last night, the 33-year-old lit up the Atlanta Hawks with 50 points in Golden State’s 127-113 win at home.

If you follow the NBA, you’ve probably heard these words before: Curry was incredible last night. He shot 47% from three, knocking down nine throughout the game – but he had no intentions of stopping there. He also racked up seven rebounds, 10 assists and three steals.

Trae Young led Atlanta with 28 points and nine assists. John Collins and Bogdan Bogdanovic added 19 and 17, respectfully, for the Hawks. Other than that, the rest of the team was fairly quiet. The Hawks gave eight players from the bench time on the court, but only one of them, Kevin Huerter, scored in double figures.

Though to be fair, it would have taken Superman throwing on a Hawks jersey to overcome Steph’s brilliance last night.

Lakers narrowly beat Hornets in overtime win

This one was a little closer. The Los Angeles Lakers narrowly defeated the Charlotte Hornets 126-123 at home last night behind a dominant performance from former Wildcat Anthony Davis. It was the Lakers’ first win in their last three games.

The Kentucky big man was everywhere last night. Davis ended with 32 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals and five blocks. Carmelo Anthony came off the Laker bench to add 29 points, helping push L.A. to victory. Laker star LeBron James did not play for the third game in a row as he deals with an abdominal strain.

Davis is still good at catching lobs, for those asking.

Davis isn’t the only former ‘Cat wearing a Lakers jersey this season. Rajon Rondo has time and time again proven himself as one of the league’s most valuable, experienced point guards. He did not score last night, but ended the game with eight assists in only 12 minutes of playing time. Teammate Malik Monk added 10 points to the L.A. win, including this absolutely absurd shot from half-court to beat the third-quarter buzzer.

Big night from Randle leads Knicks to victory in Philly

Julius Randle’s 31-point, 12-rebound double-double helped push the Knicks to a 103-96 victory in Philadelphia last night. Though the win was impressive regardless, the 76ers are short-handed right now with four-time NBA All-star Joel Embiid and three others listed unavailable due to the league’s health and safety protocols.

RJ Barrett added 15 points and 10 rebounds of his own to the win for New York. Former Wildcat Immanuel Quickley came off the bench for 10 points in just 16 minutes of play, going 3-4 from the three-point line.

Quickley’s former teammate Tyrese Maxey started for the Sixers and ended the game with 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists. NBA veteran Andre Drummond added 14 points and 25 rebounds to the effort, making him the first Sixer with 25+ rebounds in a game since Charles Barkley in 1987.

Things get chippy in Denver

Nikola Jokic had already racked up a triple-double. The Serbian-born big man had 25 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists with just under three minutes left in the game – just before he was ejected for a wild retaliation play against the Heat’s Markieff Morris.

The issue apparently started after Morris elbowed Jokic in the midsection at half court. Immediately, Jokic charged at Morris with the latter facing the other way, causing what the Heat say is an apparent neck injury. After the game, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra called it a “dangerous, dirty play.” Jokic apologized following the game, saying he should not react that way.

The Nuggets would go on to win the game 113-96, as each starting player scored in double-figures. Jimmy Butler led Miami with 31 points, and certainly had some words for Jokic following the incident. Let me just say this: I don’t think I would ever want to make either of these guys mad.
