BBNBA: Devin Booker shines in loss; J-Vando gets revenge in Minnesota
In an extremely competitive night in the NBA that featured multiple overtime games, former ‘Cats had their fingerprints all over the slate.
Jarred Vanderbilt and the Utah Jazz, which were thought to be one of the teams tanking for Victor Wembanyama this season, took down Karl Anthony-Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves in overtime to improve to 2-0. Elsewhere, despite Devin Booker scoring 33 points, the Phoenix Suns fell to the Trail Blazers in Portland in overtime. Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro combined for 44 points in a loss to the Boston Celtics while Keldon Johnson impressed by leading the San Antonio Spurs to a three-point victory over the Indiana Pacers.
Vanderbilt Shades his Former Team on Instagram After Win
For a guy who didn’t impress all that much at Kentucky when he was on the court, Jarred Vanderbilt has carved out a solid career for himself. Coming off the best season of his career last year (6.9 PPG, 8.4 RPG), J-Vando was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Utah Jazz in the Rudy Gobert trade. Vanderbilt got his first chance to prove why the T-Wolves shouldn’t have traded him Friday night, and he didn’t disappoint. He grabbed 14 rebounds while scoring four points in 25 minutes of play. Vanderbilt was all over the court and lit a fire under the young, rebuilding Utah team to will them to victory in overtime.
After the game, Vanderbilt posted on Instagram with the caption, “Still getting dubs at target center, ain’t nothing changed💪🏽”

Booker Scores 33 in Loss
Devin Booker is off to another hot start this season. He scored 28 points and dished out nine assists in their opening night victory over the Dallas Mavericks, and scored 33 points on 11/23 shooting Friday night against the Blazers. Where the Suns rallied back and beat the Mavericks earlier in the week, the Suns couldn’t hold off the Blazers in overtime last night. An Anfernee Simons layup with seven seconds remaining sunk Pheonix as a young, tough Blazer team improved to 2-0. “Former Cat” Shaedon Sharpe had a tough game, scoring zero points on 0/2 shooting in only 12 minutes of play.
Quickley, Randle propel Knicks to Blowout Victory
After losing a back-and-forth contest against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, the Knicks came out and took care of business Friday night, as they destroyed the Detroit Pistons by 24 points. Immanuel Quickley was New York’s leading scorer off the bench, scoring 20 points on 8-14 shooting in 27 minutes. When Quickley gets going, he can get the Garden rocking. Julius Randle didn’t have a bad game himself, scoring 15 points and making two of his three attempted 3-pointers.
