BBNBA: Duke alum Jared McCain wears Kentucky shirt after losing bet with Justin Edwards
Thursday night’s NBA slate wasn’t exactly an exciting one. With 12 NBA Cup games on the docket for tonight, the league elected to give us just one game the night before. The Utah Jazz earned its first home win of the season by beating the Dallas Mavericks 115-113. A John Collins dunk with 6.4 seconds left in the game broke a tie.
A couple of former Kentucky players play for the Jazz and Mavericks, but one was injured and the other played under seven minutes. Mavericks forward PJ Washington was sidelined once with a knee sprain that has now kept him off the floor for five straight games. Meanwhile, Jazz guard Johnny Juzang failed to score in his 6:55 of playing time, missing all three of his shot attempts. He still managed an assist and a steal. Oscar Tshiebwe, who is on a two-way contract with Utah, was not with the team. He’s currently playing for the franchise’s G League affiliate.
A boring night, no doubt. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about. We’re here to talk about Philadelphia 76ers rookie Justin Edwards winning a bet with fellow rookie teammate Jared McCain, who spent his lone college season at Duke. Kentucky beat Duke 77-72 on Tuesday night in Atlanta, meaning McCain had to wear a Kentucky shirt as punishment for losing the head-to-head bet.
“Nice shirt right here, brother,” Edwards says through laughs in the video below. “Bleed that Kentucky blue.”

McCain wasn’t having it though. He immediately put on a 76ers practice jersey over the Kentucky shirt. Very sore losery, Mr. McCain.
Edwards has still yet to make his official NBA debut after the 76ers picked him up as an undrafted free agent back in June. Instead, the 6-foot-6 wing has been in the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats. He’s appeared in two games so far, averaging 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in 33.7 minutes per outing. However, he’s shooting just 12-33 from the field and 5-15 from deep.
