BBNBA: Former 'Cats combine for 106 points in Heat-Lakers
What a night of NBA action from our former ‘Cats. Six guys eclipsed 20 points and four of them set season highs in a jam-packed night of hoops. A lot to discuss on today’s recap. Check it out.
‘Cats dominate in Lakers OT win vs. the Heat
I’d argue this was the best collection of performances by former Kentucky players in a single NBA game ever. Anthony Davis, Malik Monk, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro all scored 24 points or more and accounted for 106 combined points.
That’s 44.7% of the total points scored in the entire game! Like…WHAT, ARE YOU SERIOUS? Not sure how to check the historical stats on things of this nature, but there is no way UK players (or players from any college) have ever combined to score 106 points and close to 50% of a game’s entire scoring. At least not since Wilt.
What’s even crazier is that you could never guess the rank of who scored the most last night.
Bam Adebayo checked in with 28 points and his teammate Tyler Herro scored 27 off the bench including a jumper to tie it late in regulation. Off the Lakers bench, Malik Monk had his best game of the year with 27 including two late contested makes, a three and a floater as the shot clock expired, to seal the game for LA. His teammate Anthony Davis, you know, the multi-time All-Star was last of the bunch in scoring at a measly 24.
John Calipari, here’s the recruiting pitch to trump them all. Just show Reed Sheppard and DJ Wagner the highlights of this NBA game. Golly, 106 points. That’s unreal!
Go ahead and watch for yourself:
De’Aaron Fox with a season high of his own in Spurs loss
Wait, the best performance of the night from a former Kentucky player did NOT come in the Heat vs. Lakers game? Nope, it did not!
Down in Texas, the Sacramento Kings got pummeled by the home-team Spurs in a 136-117 rout. But De’Aaron Fox can’t be to blame. He recorded a season-high 37 points on 14-24 shooting as no other player on the team scored more than 13 in an embarrassing effort against San Antonio.
Check out the Fox highlights, but I’d advise against watching anything else from that awful game.
SGA leads Thunder to third straight win
Somewhere down in Oklahoma, Thunder General Manager Sam Presti is throwing worse tantrums than Joe Exotic after seeing his NBA team win its third game in a row. Presti and the Thunder are overtly committed to losing every possible game but rebels like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lu Dort just won’t wave the white flag.

Lane Kiffin says coaches prefer sitting out
OKC has found a little momentum with wins in their last three outings with their young trio of SGA, Dort and rookie Josh Giddey leading the charge. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 24 yesterday as Dort poured in 27 to defeat a team Sam Presti is jealous of: the now 1-11 New Orleans Pelicans who haven’t won a game in over two weeks.
Stick it to the doubters, SGA! The Thunder probably won’t keep the winning going but at least they’re fun to watch.
Other Notes
Things Fall Apart in Minnesota. Not sure if you all are familiar with the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. But the Timberwolves are living the protagonist’s life right now. Just like Okonkwo, Minnesota had all the power and praise at 3-1 coming off a win over the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks. Since, they’ve dropped six straight and look apathetic.
Nick Richards getting minutes. While we hate to see PJ Washington go down with an injury, his absence has opened the door for Nick Richards. Before going down, Washington was a primary center for the Hornets, logging 93% of his minutes this season at the 5. Now out, it’s Richards who’s stepped in, playing 10+ minutes and scoring in each of the last four games.
Immanuel Quickley also with a season-high. With New York adding perimeter contributors like Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker while retaining most of what they had at guard last year, Immanuel Quickley has seen his role and numbers shrink a tad so far this NBA season. But perhaps he’s getting back on track as he scored 18 on 6-12 shooting in a loss to the Bucks yesterday.
