BBNBA: Immanuel Quickley Scores Career-High 40 Points in Knicks' Win
Immanuel Quickley has been playing like the Sixth Man of the Year this season. The third-year guard is averaging 14.1 PPG, 4.1 RPG and 3.3 APG in 28.5 minutes off the bench this year for the New York Knicks. IQ has started just 17 of the Knicks’ 75 games, making him a prime candidate for the award.
The former SEC Player of the Year bolstered his resume on Monday night by scoring a career-high 40 points — this time as a starter — in a 137-115 win over the lowly Houston Rockets. He was also an assist away from what would have been his fifth double-double of the season. Quick’s Monday night outing was just about one of the most efficient high-scoring games of the entire season.
Quickley was 14-18 from the field, making five of his seven three-point attempts. With his performance, Quickley became the first Knicks player with 40 points, five assists and 75% shooting in a game since Nate Robinson all the way back in 2010. IQ is just the fifth Knicks player ever to do this, putting him in impressive company.
“When I know I’m starting, I try to get everyone involved early and make sure everyone has a feel for the game offensively,” Quickley said. “Everyone has to pick it up when one of your best players is out.”
Quickley wasn’t alone, however, as Julius Randle poured in another impressive performance as well. Randle scored 26 points and grabbed four rebounds in 28 minutes played. He loves to get started early, as he’s scored 15+ points in the first quarter 11 times this season, good for second most in the NBA behind Luka Doncic. It’s also tied for the fourth most in a season over the last 25 seasons.

De’Aaron Fox Scores 29 as Kings Fail to Clinch Playoff Berth
As it’s been documented all season, the Sacramento Kings have been the darlings of the NBA. The lowly Kings, which haven’t made the playoffs in 17 years, have suddenly turned into one of the most exciting offenses in recent memory. Led by 2023 All-Stars De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, Sac-Town is on the verge of clinching its first playoff berth in a long, long, time.
With a victory on Monday night, the Kings would have officially punched a ticket to the playoffs. However, the Minnesota Timberwolves had other plans. The T-Wolves, which were without Karl-Anthony Towns who just returned from a 51-game absence, ruined the party at the Golden 1 Center and held off the Kings 119-115.
Fox did his part, scoring 29 points and dishing out six assists. However, the help just wasn’t there on Monday. Fox’s partner in crime Malik Monk scored just 12 points on 4-13 shooting off the bench, while Trey Lyles scrounged just five points on 1-6 shooting. The Kings will attempt to punch a playoff ticket once again when they face off with the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
Other BBNBA Notes:
- Tyrese Maxey continued his ascension to star status, leading the Sixers in scoring with 29 points on 12-21 shooting in Joel Embiid’s absence. The Sixers however couldn’t hold off two-time MVP Nikola Jokic as the Nuggets won 116-111. Jamal Murray contributed 19 points and seven assists in 36 minutes played. He continues to look like the Blue Arrow of old as of late.
- Devin Booker scored 24 points on 7-19 shooting in Phoenix’s 117-103 victory over the Utah Jazz. The Suns, which is on the verge of getting back a fully healthy Kevin Durant before the Playoffs begin, currently sit at 40-35 and in fourth place in the Western Conference.
