BBNBA: Julius Randle scores 18 in Wolves' rout over Lakers
It was a relatively quiet night across the BBNBA on the first day of December as just five former Kentucky players were in action. Impressively, however, all five guys scored between 12 and 19 points and they all took a loss with the exception of Julius Randle.
The Timberwolves blew out the Los Angeles Lakers 109-80 at home in part thanks to Randle. He filled up the stat sheet with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. He also had one of the most hilarious plays of the night.
For anyone needing fodder for the, “There ain’t no walks in the NBA” argument, Julius Randle provided. In his attempt to play bully ball, Randle backed down his man from the top of the paint to underneath the basket. He then picked up his dribble, dribbled it again, and laid the ball up.
I mean…maybe the ball was knocked out of his hands but the move sure did appear all kinds of illegal. Whether it as a travel, double-dribble, or just a that-looked-weird turnover, Randle may have gotten away with one there.
For the Lakers, Anthony Davis had a modest 12-point, 11-rebound double-double, but this was simply no the Lakers night as they only scored 80 as a team.

Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo combine for 34 points, but the Heat lose big to the Celtics
Tyler Herro had 19 points on Monday but it took him 19 shots to get there. The former Kentucky bucket shot just 2-10 from behind the arc as the Heat had no answer for the defending champion, Boston Celtics. Herro, did, however, have one very nice crossover layup that was one of the nicest plays of the night. It still only counted for two points, but it was cool, nonetheless.
Like the rest of BBNBA, Bam Adebayo also had a meh night. He had 15 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in the Heat’s uninspiring loss to the Celtics. However, Adebayo did get to see his gold-medal teammate, Jason Tatum, so he didn’t walk away with nothing.
Other BBNBA Notes:
- Brandon Boston tied Tyler Herro with the most points across the BBNBA on Monday with 19 and he did it off the bench. The Pelicans still lost to the Hawks, but it is good to see Boston continuing to play well in his professional basketball resurgence.
- The nagging foot injury for Jarred Vanderbilt is healing slower than expected. Vando dealt with similar issues at Kentucky and the ailment just doesn’t seem to want to go away. He will be reevaluated in the next week or so but it could still be a while before we see Vanderbilt back on the court for the Lakers.
- In other injury news, Rob Dillingham sat Monday’s game out for Minnesota as he is nursing an ankle sprain. Get well soon.
