BBNBA: KAT's 44-point performance propels Knicks to win
After three disappointing games to open the 2024 season, Karl-Anthony Towns had his breakout game for the New York Knicks on Wednesday night.
Towns, who had failed to score over 21 points in either of New York’s first three games of the season, poured in 44 points on an efficient 17-25 shooting (68%) to lead the Knicks to a 116-107 win over the Miami Heat. KAT also totaled 13 rebounds, recording his third double-double as a Knick and 366th of his career.
KAT’s 44 points were the most scored in a single game by a Knicks center since Patrick Ewing totaled 41 on January 19, 1996.
Tyler Herro contributed his best game of the early season Wednesday night, scoring 34 points on 12-20 shooting (60%). “The Bucket” splashed eight three-pointers, marking the third game of his career hitting that mark. Bam Adebayo continued his early season struggles however, scoring just 11 points (3-7 shooting) with three rebounds.
Through four games, Adebayo is averaging just 11 points per game. Last season, the back-to-back All-Star averaged 19.3 PPG and 10.4 RPG.

Big night for members of 2019/20 team
The 2019/20 Kentucky Basketball team, comprised of Tyrese Maxey, Immanuel Quickley, Nick Richards, and others will always be one of the biggest what-ifs in program history. This loaded team, which won 11 of its final 13 games heading into the SEC Tournament, didn’t have a chance to play in the postseason due to the canceled NCAA Tournament (COVID-19).
Two members of that squad, Tyrese Maxey and Nick Richards, balled out for the Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Hornets (respectively) Wednesday night.
Maxey, who continues to be the No. 1 option for a depleted Philadelphia 76ers squad, scored 32 points (12-25 FG) with seven assists in Philadelphia’s 105-95 loss to the Detroit Pistons. Through four games, the 2024 NBA All-Star is averaging 31.3 PPG, fourth most in the NBA.
Nick Richards had one of the best games of his career Wednesday night in Charlotte’s 138-133 win over the Immanuel Quickley-less Toronto Raptors. Richards totaled 24 points on 10-14 shooting, the second most points in a game in his career. The 2020 First-Team All-SEC member also grabbed four rebounds and blocked four shots, becoming the first Hornet to reach those numbers in a game since Dwight Howard.
His career high (26) came back on January 27, 2024 against the Utah Jazz.
Other BBNBA Notes:
- Anthony Davis scored 22 points (9-17 shooting) in Los Angeles’ 134-110 blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night. This game however will be remembered as the game Bronny James, son of future Hall of Fame LeBron James, scored his first two professional points.
- The Oklahoma City Thunder are 4-0 thanks to 18 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and nine points from Cason Wallace, who made his 15th career start.
- Isaiah Jackson contributed his best game of the season Wednesday night, scoring 10 points in Indiana’s 135-132 overtime victory over the defending champion Boston Celtics.
