BBNBA: Knicks finally end seven-game skid in Los Angeles
Happy Monday, BBN. While the current Wildcats were having a big weekend in Gainesville, some former ‘Cats were putting up impressive numbers too.
Knicks finally pull it together in trip to Los Angeles
After losing seven straight games, the New York Knicks have finally found the ‘W’ column again. The Knicks beat the Los Angeles Clippers 116-93 last night in L.A. — a much-needed sigh of relief for frustrated Knicks fans and players.
RJ Barrett led the team with 24 points and nine rebounds. Former Kentucky guard Immanuel Quickley came next with 21 points and 10 rebounds, which is certainly a promising sight considering he has been in somewhat of a slump as of late. Quickley and Cam Reddish combined for 38 points off the bench. Reddish was traded to New York a little over a month ago in a deal that sent Kevin Knox to Atlanta. The third-year wing sat out his first four games in New York with an ankle injury, and has played only sporadically since. Now that guard Quentin Grimes is dealing with injury, though, Reddish should see more minutes.
Julius Randle has struggled this season with inconsistency, and it appears the frustration appears to be mounting. On Friday, Randle was ejected for pushing Suns forward Cam Johnson, as well as “making contact” with an NBA official. After the game, Randle said the ejection “hurt,” as he wasn’t available down the stretch for his team — a stretch in which they blew a third-quarter lead and ended up losing 115-114. The former Kentucky big man scored just 10 points in last night’s game.
Shai’s big night not enough to overcome Jazz
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues to impress…but he needs more help. Despite a 33-point night against the Utah Jazz last night, Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder lost 116-103 at home. The former Kentucky point guard added seven rebounds, eight assists, four steals and one block to his statline, all in 38 minutes of play.
Fellow former Wildcat Olivier Sarr recently joined the Thunder roster. Sarr put up 11 points in the loss, along with grabbing nine rebounds. Aaron Wiggins and Darius Bazley also added 11, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a big night from the Jazz starting five. Bojan Bogdanovic hit a franchise-record 11 3-pointers in the game, good for 35 points. Donovan Mitchell added 24 to the effort, along with 10 assists. Rudy Gobert had 12 points and 17 rebounds.

Since returning from his ankle injury, Gilgeous-Alexander has scored at least 30 points in five games. He is averaging 33.3 points, 6.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds in that stretch, all while shooting 56.6% from the field.
Suns can’t get it done in Milwaukee without Booker
The Milwaukee Bucks are rolling. After a 132-122 win over the Suns last night, the Bucks have successfully completed a tough three-game stretch with no losses. It is their fourth straight win, which is extra impressive as the NBA Playoffs draw closer and closer.
It didn’t look great from the beginning, though. Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo found himself in foul trouble early on, causing him to play a bit more conservatively than he might have otherwise. Thankfully for Bucks fans, Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday made up for it. Middleton scored a season-high 44 points, along with eight rebounds and five assists. Holiday added 24 points, nine assists and four steals. The Bucks outscored the Suns 12-1 in the last three minutes.
The Suns put up a good fight despite missing their All-Star starting backcourt of Devin Booker and Chris Paul. It was Booker’s third-straight miss due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols. Paul is out with a broken right thumb which he sustained on Feb. 16 against Houston. Cam Johnson sat out as well with a bruised right quadriceps. Led by DeAndre Ayton’s 33 points, all five of the starting Suns scored in double-digits.
