BBNBA: Lordy, lordy, Tyrese Maxey drops 40 in 76ers win
Tyrese Maxey is far from over the hill (so are actual 40-year-olds, by the way) and showed it on Monday night, pouring in 40 points in the Philadelphia 76ers’ win over the Charlotte Hornets. He filled up the stat sheet in general, dishing out five assists, grabbing five boards, and coming away with four steals.
Now that Philly has Paul George back (who had 33 on the night), the team doesn’t have to rely 100 percent on Maxey to drag them to victory every night. Still, they are without Joel Embiid who remains banged up. The Sixers are just 8-16 on the year, but on paper, anyway, they should be much better when they have their Big 3 fully healthy.
For the Hornets, fifth-year Nick Richards, who returned from injury himself recently, came off the bench against Philadelphia and scored 19 points to go along with his five rebounds. Richards is a name rumored to be on the trading block and several contenders could use the services of the reliable big man.
Maxey, on the other hand, isn’t going anywhere.
Jamal Murray hits the game-winning shot against the Sacramento Kings
He may not have scored 40 like Maxey, but Jamal Murray had the BBNBA highlight of the night. In what was a riveting back-and-forth final few minutes in a game where the Nuggets led by as many as 20 in the first half, Murray came up with a clutch shot on the road. With his team down one, he took a dribble handoff (Shout out Zoom Action) from Nikola Jokic and knocked down the pull-up 18-footer with eight seconds left on the clock to put Denver up for good.

It was two of his 28 points on the night to go along with seven assists.
Former Kentuck duo, De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk didn’t have a bad game themselves for the Kings. They combined for 54 points (29 from Fox, 25 from Monk), but it wasn’t enough to light the beam in Sacramento.
Trey Lyles is still out with a calf injury but may be returning soon. When asked about Lyles possibly coming back, Malik Monk joked, “It’s about time, he’s been out for about three months.”
Other BBNBA Notes
- Jamal Murray wasn’t the only former ‘Cat to hit a clutch basket on Monday. Tyler Herro hit a 3 to send the game against Detroit into overtime where the Heat eventually fell 125-124. It was the fourth 3-pointer he hit in the game, but he shot 17 in total as the Heat amidst Jimmy Butler trade rumors, took the L. Bam Adebayo had 15 points and eight boards on the night.
- All seven of Johnny Juzang‘s shots came from behind the arc on Monday and he made four of them, but the Clippers blew out the Jazz 144-107 behind 41 points from James Harden.
- All eight members of the BBNBA who saw time on the court Monday scored in double figures. I love what Mark Pope is doing and that’s what really matters, but it is still amazing to witness the talent Kentucky produced over the last 15 years.
