Karl-Anthony Towns scored 20 points in the 4th quarter of Game 3 in the Eastern Conference Finals. So did the Indiana Pacers. The Knicks were down as many as 20 points, and with Jalen Brunson in foul trouble, it looked like Indy was going to cruise to a commanding 3-0 series lead. But then KAT flipped a switch and took over, leading New York all the way back from the brink to a 106-100 win.

Towns only had four points and seven rebounds through three quarters but exploded for 20 points and eight rebounds in the fourth alone, connecting on 6-9 from the field, including 3-4 from behind the arc. Oh, and one posterizing dunk.

Towns is only the second Knicks player in the play-by-play stats era (1996-97) to score 20 or more points in the 4th quarter. The only other person to achieve this feat was Jalen Brunson last season, also against the Pacers.

The game marked the third time in these playoffs that the Knicks have come back by 20 or more points to win, and the sixth time it has happened by any team in this year’s playoffs. There had only been five games that featured a 20-point comeback in the last four playoffs combined. It has been an insane postseason.

After the game, KAT said, “This team is special. That locker room is special,” and then gave a shoutout to Dominicans as Sunday was Mother’s Day in the Dominican Republic, Towns’ country of origin. Karl lost his mother to Covid during the pandemic, so you have to think he felt her presence during his historic 4th quarter on this special day.

He and the Knicks will try to even the series on Tuesday in Game 4.
