BBNBA: Trey Lyles Ejected after End of Game Scuffle
The Sacramento Kings continue to be the NBA’s darling of the 2022-23 season.
The Kings, led by former ‘Cat De’Aaron Fox, are 40-27, good for third in a loaded Western Conference. Sacramento had a chance to further cement themselves as a title contender on Monday night when they hosted the best team in the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks. Things, however, didn’t go to plan.
Trailing by six with eight minutes remaining, the Kings went on an 8-0 run to take a 108-106 lead. But the Bucks responded with a 7-0 run of their own, pushing the lead to five. Another 7-0 by the Giannis-led offense put this one away for Milwaukee, a big missed opportunity for the Kings. There was some frustration to be let out.
Former ‘Cat Trey Lyles took offense to Giannis Antetokounmpo, who scored 46 points, goofily dribbling the game out with 15 seconds remaining. Lyles fouled Giannis and gave him a little push. Bucks teammate Brook Lopez took offense to this too and came to the support of the former MVP. Lyles and Lopez got into an ugly end-of-game altercation which led to them both being ejected.
This scuffle overshadowed the game action, as Fox turned in another masterclass performance. The first-time All-Star scored 35 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Since the All-Star Game, he’s averaging 30.0 PPG, 6.6 APG, and 4.4 RPG. Fox has been one of the league’s most impressive point guards this season.
Devin Booker’s 35 Points Not Enough to Overcome Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have been a mystery this season.
The defending champions are 36-33, with a staggering 29 of those wins coming at home. Inside the Chase Center, Golden State is 29-7. Away from the Bay Area? Just 7-26.

Monday night’s matchup against the Phoenix Suns did take place at the Chase Center, so “The Splash Bros” went to work. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined for 61 points on 12 three-pointers made, putting this one away fairly easily against the Booker-led Suns.
Devin Booker ended up with 32 points but was a dreadful -14 in 32 minutes played. D-Book has scored 28+ points in six consecutive games. With the loss, the Suns stay put in the fourth seed and are just 1.5 games ahead of the Warriors and Clippers for the seed.
Other BBNBA Notes:
- The Miami Heat, which are scrapping for a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament, got a big win over the Utah Jazz on Monday night. Tyler Herro scored 18 points while Bam Adebayo scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Down one with a minute remaining, Herro hit a big three-pointer to put Miami up two. They would hold on to win 119-115.
- Coming off a Sunday performance in which he scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Isaiah Jackson came back to Earth on Monday night. Jackson scored 11 points and grabbed just six rebounds in Indiana’s 117-97 loss to the lowly Detroit Pistons.
