BBNFL Week 17: Allen sets Jags sack record; Robinson scores first rushing TD
What do you call it when someone gets a hat trick three times? A hat trick hat trick?
Whatever you call it, Josh Allen recorded three sacks in a game for the third game this season as the Jacksonville Jaguars defense blanked the Carolina Panthers, pitching a shutout on the way to a 26-point victory. Allen played a big part in that, pressuring the quarterback six times and taking him down to the turf thrice.
Allen also had three sacks in Week 1 and Week 4, plus he had 2.5 sacks during Week 12. Overall that gives him 16.5 sacks on the season, good for second in the NFL and just a half-sack shy of the NFL leader, TJ Watt.
He also surpassed the single-season Jaguars sack record. This big day came after not recording a sack for three straight games. On beating the record, Allen said:
“For me to be in the history books, it’s huge. I’m a legacy type of guy, I want to leave a legacy everywhere I go. I didn’t do it by myself, first and foremost. So, shout out to everybody who was a part of it.
“That’s one thing: Records are meant to be broken. I can’t wait for somebody to break my record. I had a record in college. They broke that record. And I believe [Jaguars outside linebacker Travon Walker] will break this record.”

It is unclear what record from his time in Lexington Allen is referencing. He is the current career and single-season sack leader for the Wildcats, but sure, records are meant to be broken.
The former Kentucky edge rusher picked a good year to dominate. Allen will enter the offseason as a free agent and he may need to rent a dump truck for the amount of money teams are going to want to give him. PFF ranks him as the number one edge free agent, and the third-best free agent overall.

Wan’Dale Robinson scores first career rushing touchdown
The New York Football Giants are not a great football team, but Wan’Dale Robinson has been one of the franchise’s few bright spots. The team keeps finding ways to get the dynamic slot receiver the ball any way they can. Against the Rams on Sunday, Robinson took an end-around 24 yards into the endzone for the first rushing touchdown of his NFL career.
Robinson also hauled in six of his eight targets for 55 yards. If you took a flyer and played him in your fantasy football championship, it paid off.
There are a lot of questions that the Giants need to answer during of the offseason when it comes to offensive personnel, but Wan’Dale Robinson is not one of them.
Other BBNFL Notes:
- Will Levis returned from an ankle injury to the starting lineup for the Tennessee Titans but immediately exited with another ankle ailment. Please get this man some help on the offensive line next year, Titans.
- Za’Darius Smith had another good game for the Cleveland Browns. His sack total isn’t what it was last year but Big Z has shown that he will stick around in this league even longer than he already has.
- Mike Edwards is another former Kentucky defenseman who keeps impressing as a veteran. He played 74 snaps for the Chiefs during Week 17 and helped secure a much-needed win for his team.
