BBNFL Week 5: Brandin Echols' gets another interception; Wan'Dale Robinson scores...again
Former Kentucky Wildcat, Brandin Echols already has one ridiculous interception this season (against Will Levis of all people), and on Sunday, he added another. Playing in London, Echols came up with a bloody brilliant pick at the hands of Minnesota quarterback, Sam Darnold. The turnover came at a crucial time in the 4th quarter, sparking a near comeback win for the New York Jets. Echols has primarily played special teams this season but in his short time in the defensive backfield, he has made the most of his opportunities.
Trevin Wallace was a tackle machine in his first NFL start
Staying on the defensive side of the ball with former ‘Cats making the most of their opportunity, rookie Trevin Wallace ate on Sunday. Due to some injuries to guys ahead of him, Wallace made the first start of his young NFL career against the Chicago Bears, as a franchise clearly in rebuild mode handed the defensive keys over to their third-round draft pick.
So far, so good.
Wallace finished the day with 11 tackles, three assists, and one QB pressure. The next closest Panther to Wallace in the tackle category was six. Carolina still lost the game to the Bears because of course they did, but individually, Wallace could not have had a better outing in his first NFL start.
Josh-Hines Allen comes up with a huge fumble recovery
Whether you like it or not, Guardian Caps are going to take over football. You’ve already seen a handful of players opt to wear the revised headgear instead of the traditional helmet, choosing brain safety over fashion, and that number is only going to grow. In five years, they will be the norm and any player electing to wear an old-school helmet will be mocked for his stubbornness.
The latest player to join the Guardian Cap bandwagon is Josh Hines-Allen. The edge-rushing beast showed up wearing football neurologists’ latest technology and it did not slow him down. The Kentucky legend remained a disrupter in the backfield against the Colts, pressuring the QB four times, getting one sack, and coming up with a massive fumble recovery off of another sack.

If nothing else, Hines-Allen’s new headgear was a good luck charm for Jacksonville, as the Jags seized their first win of the season.
Wan’Dale Robinson catches second TD of the season
It wasn’t exclusively defensive success for the BBNFL in Week 5; Wan’Dale Robinson caught his second touchdown of the season for the New York Giants. With their top receiver, Malik Nabors, out, Robinson served as the defacto top wideout for the G-Men. He was targetted nine times of which he had six receptions for 36 yards.
New York still prefers to get Robinson the ball quickly, which doesn’t lend itself to remarkable deep ball catches like Big Blue Nation saw him make at Kroger Field, but helps in the red zone. Robinson’s seven-yard TD came off of a short crossing route, helping lift the Giants over the Seahawks on the road.
Other BBNFL Notes:
- Former Super Bowl Champion and current Buffalo Bill, Mike Edwards, made the most of his one and only defensive snap on Sunday, making a tackle while he was on the field.
- Behind Brandin Nichols, Za’Darius Smith had the highest PFF grade amongst BBNFL players on Sunday with a 70.7. He served up five QB pressures and a sack against the Washington Commanders.
- Carrington Valentine made his season debut for the Green Bay Packers. Valentine is coming off of a leg injury but played 41 snaps against the Rams. Dru Phillips also returned from injury for the Giants. Good to see two great DBs back out there.
