Belmont Stakes 2025 Post Positions, Odds: Journalism is the Favorite

A Triple Crown will not be on the line when the horses enter the starting gate at the 2025 Belmont Stakes, but we do have a few rivals ready to clash at Saratoga Race Course.
Journalism has long been considered the top three-year-old horse in the country. He went toe-to-toe with Sovereignty down the stretch at the Kentucky Derby and lost. Following a successful campaign at Pimlico, the two Triple Crown winners will go head-to-head this Saturday in the Belmont Stakes.
Journalism, the morning line favorite at 8-5, drew an outside post position in the field of eight. Michael McCarthy’s horse will be just outside Baeza, the also-eligible who finished strong with a third-place finish in the Kentucky Derby. The top three from the Derby are the top three choices ahead of the third Triple Crown race.
Unlike Journalism, the connections of Sovereignty and Baeza chose to skip the Preakness in favor of more rest. We’ll learn this weekend if Journalism needed the 5-week layoff to keep up with his competition.

Rodriguez was expected to be a top contender on the First Saturday in May. Bob Baffert’s speedy frontrunner dealt with a sore hoof that scratched him from both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. He’ll be providing some early speed with Mike Smith aboard.
With the move from Belmont Park to the smaller track in upstate New York, this race will only be 1 1/4 miles, the same distance as the Kentucky Derby. The Belmont Stakes has a $2 million purse and post time is set for 7:04 PM ET this Saturday on Fox.
