Benny Snell Training Camp Tryout Tour Continues
Benny Snell is looking for a new NFL home. The former Kentucky Wildcat spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. To make it to year five, he has to bring his best to NFL Training Camps. Even though they’re just getting started, he’s already attended a couple formal tryouts.
In June he participated in a minicamp with Sean Payton’s new-look Denver Broncos. Last week he worked out in the desert for the Las Vegas Raiders. On Wednesday Snell returned to the heartland to try out for the Indianapolis Colts.
Jim Irsay, the Colts’ outspoken owner, put his foot into his mouth during the offseason running back conversation/controversy. Running backs felt disrespected by front offices for not receiving lucrative second contracts. Jonathan Taylor tried to get ahead of it by negotiating a second deal with Indy before his rookie deal concluded. Now he’s looking for a trade after a very public disagreement with Irsay.
Unsure of what the future with Taylor might hold, the Colts hosted three veteran running backs for a tryout: Snell, Kenyan Drake and Devine Ozigbo. Of the vets, Snell has worn the least amount of tread off his tires.

In four years with the Steelers Snell logged 982 yards rushing and seven touchdowns, averaging just 3.6 yards per carry. He also caught 17 passes for 114 yards and played a prominent roles on special teams. Hopefully these tryouts can turn into another contract for one of the BBN’s most beloved Kentucky football players.
