The SEC was the best conference in college basketball this season. Just about every metric will tell you that. The Big Ten was the second-best league. The other mega-conference is absolutely bringing it in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

Every Big Ten team in the field will be playing in the Round of 32 this weekend. The league known for punts and the Ohio State-Michigan football rivalry has been a cover machine in the Big Dance.

Each Big Ten team in the field was laying points and covered the number. All the first round victories were by double-digits. Five Big Ten teams will be laying points in the Round of 32.

  • McNeese vs. Purdue (-6.5)
  • Michigan (+2.5) vs. Texas A&M
  • BYU vs. Wisconsin (-1.5)
  • UCLA (+5.5) vs. Tennessee
  • Illinois (-1.5) vs. Kentucky
  • Colorado State vs. Maryland (-7.5)
  • New Mexico vs. Michigan State (-7.5)
  • Oregon (+4.5) vs. Arizona

The SEC (8-6) is tied with the Big Ten in the win column. The Big 12 (6-1) is just two games behind. The top six teams in the SEC standings all advanced out of the first round but recorded just a 2-4 ATS finish. Now we will get to see three Big Ten-SEC matchups and two Big Ten-Big 12 matchups in the second round to see if the midwest league can keep winning and covering numbers.

The Big Ten is looking for its first national championship since Michigan State cut the nets in 2000 (if you do not count ACC Maryland in 2002). Was this the best conference in college basketball season? Probably not but there is no denying the impressive first-round performance.

NCAA Tournament Schedule: Round of 32 Saturday
